5 Wedding Cake Styles Perfect for a Summer Celebration

Updated: 7 days ago

As we step into the summer wedding season, I wanted to share five of my favourite cake styles that are perfect for the sunshine, the flowers, and all the romance that this time of year brings. Whether you're planning a classic country garden wedding or a bold festival-style celebration, there's something here to inspire every couple.

The Traditional Summer Wedding Cake

Timeless elegance never goes out of style, and for some, a classic look is exactly what they’re after. Think whites, creams, and maybe a gentle hint of blush, lavender or duck egg blue;  or a polished fondant tiered cake with intricate patterns and a graceful silhouette topper. This style is all about understated beauty – soft floral details, lace-textured fondant, and dainty sugar flowers.

One of my most requested designs recently is a vintage buttercream cake with elegant piping and delicate florals. It's romantic, refined, and totally swoon-worthy – the kind of cake that makes a timeless statement.

The Festival Wedding Cake

Now for something completely different – festival weddings! These cakes are an explosion of colour and joy, and I absolutely love getting creative with them. Think bunting, confetti, edible flowers, and all the bright, beautiful shades you can imagine.

I recently created a three-tiered rainbow cake with vibrant painted tiers and hand-crafted sugar dahlias and zinnias. It was as cheerful as a summer’s day and matched the couple’s wildflower marquee to perfection. If you're planning a tipi, live music, and hay bales kind of day – this one’s for you.

The Boho Wedding Cake

Boho weddings are such a vibe – relaxed, romantic and a little bit wild. The boho cake style leans into texture and natural beauty, often decorated with dried flowers, grasses, and muted earthy tones.

The one shown here is a favourite of mine – neutral tones, pampas grass, eucalyptus, and elegant fondant ruffles that give the cake movement and softness. It’s the kind of design that feels modern, free-spirited, and beautifully organic.

The Rustic Wedding Cake

If you’re getting married in a barn or out in the countryside, a rustic cake is a brilliant choice. The semi-naked cake is a firm favourite – it’s relaxed, a little bit undone (in the best way), and pairs perfectly with fresh flowers or fruits.

The bark-style design shown here is always a showstopper – carved wood textures, sugar sunflowers, berries and greenery for that whimsical woodland feel.

The Fruity & Fresh Summer Cake

Summer berries are just too good not to feature – and they make for absolutely gorgeous cakes. From strawberries and raspberries to figs and blackberries, a fruit-filled cake looks and tastes like summer itself.

Whether you're dreaming of classic romance or something bold and bright, I hope this gives you some lovely inspiration. Every wedding is different – and every cake should be, too.
