Three Autumnal Wedding Cake Styles

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons for weddings. There’s something magical about the crisp air, golden leaves underfoot, and that cosy glow of candlelight as the evenings draw in. And, of course, your wedding cake is the perfect place to celebrate the richness of the season. Whether you lean towards classic elegance or something more playful, there are endless ways to bring autumn to your cake table. Here are four autumnal wedding cake styles that I absolutely adore.

The Classic White with a Seasonal Twist

Sometimes, simplicity speaks volumes. A clean, white wedding cake creates a timeless base, but when paired with a burst of autumnal florals, it transforms into something extraordinary. I love the idea of introducing a faux “floral tier” – bright golden yellows, deep reds, and burnt oranges – nestled between smooth layers of cake. It instantly draws the eye, becoming both the centrepiece of your reception and the highlight of your cake table. This is a wonderful option if you want a sophisticated cake that still feels warm, seasonal, and celebratory.

Playing with Shapes

If you’re looking to wow your guests with something a little different, why not make the most of shapes? One of my favourite designs for autumn is an ombré cake in seasonal brown tones adorned with modern hexagonal accents. The geometric theme is carried through with a golden hexagon “tier” that creates a striking visual effect. And it doesn’t stop at the cake – the dessert table can echo this theme with hexagonal biscuits, elegant cake pops, and mini cheesecake pots. This approach feels stylish and contemporary while still being beautifully on-season.

Traditional, but with Autumn Flair

There’s something undeniably charming about a semi-naked cake dressed with fresh seasonal fruits. Think figs, blackberries, pomegranates, and clusters of red berries tumbling down the tiers. The result is rustic yet refined, full of colour and natural beauty. Displayed against the stately backdrop of Holmewood Hall, this design truly sings of autumn. It’s the perfect choice for couples who love a traditional cake but want to embrace the abundance of the season in all its glory.

Whether you choose fresh fruit, bold shapes, or timeless florals, an autumnal wedding cake is so much more than dessert – it’s a statement, a celebration of the season, and a sweet memory you and your guests will never forget.
