Planning your wedding cake should be one of the most delicious parts of your wedding prep – but knowing what to ask can save you time, money, and last-minute stress. At Love Life Eat Cake, I love helping couples bring their dream cakes to life, and I'm always happy to answer all your questions. Here are some of the most important ones to ask your cake designer...
When do we need to finalise the design?
For bespoke cakes, I usually recommend finalising your design around 2-3 months before your wedding day. This allows time to source any special materials or decorations and to perfect every last detail.
How many design edits can we make?
As many as you like! However, I would need everything confirmed 6 weeks before your wedding.
How far in advance do we need to book you?
I book up quite quickly, especially during peak wedding season. To avoid disappointment, I recommend securing your date at least 12-18 months in advance. A deposit will hold your spot in my diary. You can of course enquire after this point, but my diary does fill up!
Can we request a flavour that isn’t on your list?
My flavours are tried and tested over many years of experience and while my flavour menu is constantly evolving, I tend to steer clear of requested flavours. It takes me months to perfect a flavour combination, and to confirm it works with all different styles of cake and decoration.
How much cake do we need?
That depends on your guest count, the type of event, and whether you're serving cake as dessert or alongside other sweets. During your consultation, I’ll help you calculate the perfect size – I promise, there won’t be any awkwardly tiny slices! I would normally cater for 80% of your guests, but more if you would like to keep a tier in the freezer!
Do you deliver the cake?
Yes – all wedding cakes are delivered and set up by me on the day. I’ll liaise with your venue to ensure everything runs smoothly, and your cake looks picture-perfect on display.
Do we need to refrigerate our cake?
Not usually! Most of my cakes are designed to be stable at room temperature for the duration of your wedding. However if your wedding reception is in a marquee or tipi and it is an unusually hot day (28 degrees upwards) pop it in the fridge until the cake cutting if it puts your mind at ease.
